As the son of a furniture artisan Ian spent most of my childhood in his father’s shop absorbing all the wisdom and knowledge he could. Watching his father work and helping him on projects helped ignite a passion for woodworking that continues today. In 2009, Ian spent the summer honing his skills at the famous Thos. Moser Cabinetmakers shop in Auburn, Maine. Upon returning home the idea for Sustar Woodworks was born. Ian’s designs are influenced by the shaker philosophy that form follows function. Ian handcrafts heirloom quality furniture that is meant to be used and provide value to the families it serves.
