Andryea Natkin

Guest Artist at 10) Over the Hill Pottery

Andryea Natkin was born in Chicago, Illinois into a family of artists where she learned to appreciate a wide variety of artistic mediums. She knew from a very young age that she was an artist. She studied at Illinois State University, Columbia College in Chicago and earned her BFA from The School of The Art Institute of Chicago in 1981. A lifelong learner and dabbler at heart, Andryea enjoys working in many mediums. In 2005 stumbled into the fascinating world of mosaics and for twelve years she studied the medium while also opening and operating a retail supply store for mosaic artists. During this time she exhibited her work nationally and internationally. In 2018, her mosaic, 'Primordial Traveler' was awarded Best in Show at the Mosaic Arts International Exhibition in Boston.

Later that year, Andryea chose to close the retail busines to focus her attention on her own studio practice where she rekindled her love for clay. Today, from a small, cozy studio in her home, she produces small batches of hand built functional and sculptural objects covered with patterns and designs in black and white that evoke not only a timeless simplicity but a connection to natural order.
